2010 College Football Season Starts!

The 2010 season is underway and Maddox is getting to watch football with his dad every weekend. It is something special to sit with your son and watch a sport that you truly love. His smile when I cheer and the nervous look he get when I yell are things that are just amazing. Regardless, MJ saw the Gators go 2-0 today, even though they are playing like crap. Tomorrow he gets to visit Stumps for opening day in the NFL, this kid is truly a blast to hang with.

Today Maddox played the IPAD piano, it was truly awesome to see him realize this at such a young age. When we took it away, he cried because he was having fun.

Devon came home early to watch PSU get beat by Bama! Maddox was tired after this long day and went to bed. Got to love this time of year with the family. Days like today make me realize that I am fortunate for all that I have.

Summer 2010--Becoming a dad!

Summer 2010 draws to a close and I will say it was probably the most memorable of my life. I say that knowing that the birth of Maddox would have made this summer that more special regardless but also knowing that Devon & I continue the ‘dynasty’ of our relationship. Lets recap the summer:

Maddox James was born on June 1st and it was something that I will never forget. I was never nervous just excited about seeing my boy. As they prepped Devon, she was already a warrior queen in handling the epidural, the stress, and telling the doctors how to do their jobs. They take her to the OR on time. I had to sit on the ‘only’ chair by the large steel swing doors, while they prepped Devon. I realized at this moment that this is meant for the pure enjoyment of the nurses. They look up from their desk waiting for the soon to be dad to freak out. Guess what? I did not give them that satisfaction, I took photos and waited a great moment. I then went in the back and in moments saw Maddox James! 9lbs 4oz, way bigger than I thought. Then the journey entered into a new phase. Visitors, gifts, hundreds of Facebook comments all just blew me away. We are blessed just on the remarkable network of friends we have.

Maddox is five weeks old and we take on another challenge. Rhylan Shane Tyler, my nephew begins living with us on the 5th of July. Robyn (sister in-law) was deployed to defend our country in Iraq for 12 months. We took Rhylan to stay with us through the process. Devon was scarred, when our friends heard about this they thought we were nuts, and I………just thought that if we stuck together we could handle it. It is funny how much you learn in 90 days. Devon & I are both doing well though. We take it day by day and focus on raising both of these kids. Diapers, funny stories, stressful moments, etc. all come to mind everyday.

So on to the top three memories:
1. Maddox’s first bath. Now, the boy loves to take bath’s but the first one was extra special. Devon was so excited to give MJ his bath. She was just glowing as her little man enjoyed the tub and being cleaned. We take him out and as he is in his towel he leaves a special package for mommy. The ironic part was a half hour before, Rhylan decided to leave the same package in the tub.
2. Potty Training--Well, this is way harder than it looks. Rhylan had immediate success in the first few days but now it is hit or miss. He knows where poo poo goes but does not get that he has to tell us when he does have to go. So, one of my days home with him I asked do you have to go. He said yes. I am like ‘bam, we are in business’. Took him into the bathroom and he points to the toilet bowl and says ‘MOMO POO POO’ he placed Elmo in the potty. Holding back laughter I told him that was not a good idea.

3. Family Pool Day was a day after work when Devon and I took the kids into the pool. This is probably one of the best after work days I had done in a few years. Maddox had a blast and Rhylan……well, he loves the pool. ;)

Last week our Nanny started working for us. Rhylan welcomed her with a smack across the face & Maddox was good all day. Her name is Ms. Pat, it is a relief we found someone that enjoy the kids as much as we do.

In the grand scheme of the challenges, problems, and life I know that Devon & I are truly blessed for our situation. Until next update, take care.
